Sunny Hills of Istria

Small cooperative ecovillage and sustainability polygon in the hinterland of Slovene Istria (Topolovec 29, Gračišče / Hrvoji hamlet, City Municipality of Koper). Association Sunny Hill runs education, volunteering and events; the cooperative owns and manages the houses and land. A ~200-year-old dry-stone house was renovated in 2016 as a living demonstration of compost toilets, reed-bed wastewater, clay plasters, rainwater catchment and wood heat. Since 2025 two residents run the permaculture homestead and venue with long- and short-term volunteers. Average on-site population is about 8–12. Member of GEN, ECOLISE, Plan B for Slovenia and LAS Istre.
