Forty-two homes and a working farm below the Flatirons

Our Story
Nyland is a cohousing neighborhood of 42 privately owned homes on about 36 acres in Lafayette, Boulder County, six miles from Boulder with a view of the Flatirons and Front Range. Planning began in 1987; residents started living together in 1992–1993. About 135 people of mixed ages, careers, and views live here. Homes sit on pedestrian paths (pedways) with cars kept to the edge. A large Common House supports optional shared meals, celebrations, and meetings. The acreage includes farmland, gardens, greenhouse/aquaponics capacity, and tree-lined paths. North Field Farm operates on the land, growing 200+ produce varieties and running a public CSA that also feeds the neighborhood. Nyland sits between municipal open space (Nyland Prairie / neighboring Boulder and Louisville parcels). Ownership is private homes plus a community association. Turnover is slow; the community is open to new members when a home comes up and welcomes visitors for meals, guest rooms, meetings, and work days. Not a shared-income commune.
