Our Story
Greyrock Commons is a 30-household cohousing neighborhood on 16 acres three miles northwest of Old Town Fort Collins, looking west to the Front Range foothills. Six founding families used the Danish cohousing model to turn a depleted cornfield into a pedestrian neighborhood completed in 1997. Thirty energy-efficient townhomes with front porches cluster on about six acres around a central green and Common House (kitchen, dining, living room, playroom, guest suite, rec room, laundry, exercise). The remaining ten acres hold a community garden and compost system, chicken coop, fruit trees, a passive-solar shop/studio, irrigation from a historic ditch, and a five-acre restored natural area with a half-mile loop. Kestrel Fields Natural Area adjoins the west boundary; the Poudre River trail network is about a half mile away. Homes are privately owned. Consensus governance and optional common meals (about 1–2 per week) are part of daily life. Visitors are received for meals, guest rooms, and individual tours when arranged. Open to new members when a unit is for sale or rent. Not a shared-income commune.
